Data East

Data East Pinball was an American pinball division established in 1986 by the Japanese company Data East and led by Gary Stern. Operating in the United States after acquiring the former Stern Electronics pinball assets, it quickly became one of the leading manufacturers of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The company became known for its use of major licensed properties and several technical innovations. Its catalog includes iconic tables such as Batman, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tales from the Crypt, The Simpsons, and Guns N' Roses.

The legacy of Data East continued through Sega Pinball and later Stern Pinball, which inherited much of its staff, facilities, and expertise.
